Wire Wrap jewelry is a distinct and easily recognizable genre of jewelry. It is the only metallic jewelry crafted without melting, soldering, casting or gluing. All of our products are made with just the use of our hands and tools. Wire wrapping as decoration and jewelry has been around for thousands of years. Although reports vary as to who were the first to do it, Ancient Sumerian artifacts of wire wrap jewelry were found dating back to 2000 B.C. Artists today use similar designs to those used throughout history, with the artists adding their own personal style and flair.
Selecting the type of metal wire, pattern and gauge are important in the creation of beautiful, long lasting wire wrapped jewelry. Many artists use Sterling Silver, 14K Gold, 14K Gold-Filled, Brass, and Copper wire. The metal wire comes in various gauges and patterns including square, round, half-round, twisted, and other patterns including wide wire with imbedded designs that require minimal wrapping. Many artists use wire ranging from 12 to 28 gauge. The lower the gauge number the larger and stronger the wire. For example 16 gauge is larger than 28 gauge. We prefer using 14K Gold-Filled (which is 100 times thicker than gold-filled-plated) and Sterling Silver wire with a gauge range from 16-22. However, since we have experience wire wrapping brass, copper and 14K Solid Gold, custom orders can be made using these materials.
